AlinsugLaw notes that Justice Puno is finally appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court. Congratulations for this well-deserved albeit overdue appointment.
When I was at the Supreme Court as a lawyer staff of Justice Kapunan (retired), I had a chance to meet with the now Chief Justice when I visit a classmate of mine, Atty. Jun Santos, who had also worked as a legal staff of Justice Puno. The Chief Justice was polite, cordial and low-key. Also, I again had a chance to see him during Atty. Santos wedding. The Chief Justice was one of the sponsors.

Newly-appointed Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno today vowed to uphold the rule of law in all his undertakings as the 22nd Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. The most senior of the 14 Associate Justices, Chief Justice Puno was sworn into office by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court shortly after midnight today.
